My favourite area of photography would definitely be portraiture. As a portrait photographer you have to care about capturing a special moment in time for a family, or person, forever. It’s a privilege really. To use the camera to render an image of someone that reveals their true identity is definitely a skill. And with that also comes a certain type of responsibility. Of course, that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun when we are creating those memories!
My favourite portrait clients are the one’s that I shoot every year. The relationship grows, the shots evolve and everyone becomes more relaxed over time. I’m happy to shoot on location, or in the studio – whatever suits my client. Trying to create a context in the portrait is a key part of what I want to achieve for my clients. Context can be created through location, and / or by using a lighting style. It’s amazing though, the different looks that can be achieved in the studio, just using lighting and a plain background.
